What we achieve

In CO2 PACMAN we enable Mediterranean islands to start their transition to climate neutrality. We empower local authorities, citizens, and stakeholders to collaboratively develop and implement integrated strategies for carbon footprint mitigation. Our innovative tools and participatory approach will enhance capacity for sustainable planning, resulting in comprehensive action plans that set a replicable model for other islands striving for climate neutrality.

Before delivering its main outputs, CO2 PACMAN established a structured framework for cooperation and climate action across Mediterranean islands. The project engaged public authorities, research institutions, stakeholders and citizens in the pilot islands of Brač, Crete and Elba, applying a participatory methodology to assess carbon footprints and identify integrated transition pathways.

Building on previous Interreg MED initiatives and existing assessment tools, the project tested a cooperative planning approach that combines scientific analysis with stakeholder engagement. This preparatory work laid the foundation for the development of the project’s roadmaps, toolkit and joint strategies for climate neutrality
