What we do
Methodology Starting Phase
CO2 PACMAN begins with a structured methodological phase aimed at establishing a common analytical and participatory framework across the pilot islands. This phase includes the collection and assessment of local data, carbon footprint analysis, stakeholder mapping and the preparation of participatory processes. It ensures that all subsequent activities are based on a shared scientific foundation and aligned with local needs and priorities.
Main Innovative Practices
- CO2 Pacman Rooting Labs Three-day workshops organised in the pilot islands during the first round of activities. These co-working and interactive sessions bring together project partners and local stakeholders to conduct on-site investigations, collect and analyse data, exchange knowledge and identify potential solutions for the climate transition. Learn more
- CO2 Pacman Tool. An assessment and visualisation tool that calculates the island’s Carbon Footprint and represents it in terms of the virtual forest area required to absorb the equivalent CO₂ emissions. The tool supports evidence-based planning and the evaluation of alternative transition scenarios. Learn More
- Citizen Engagement. A structured set of participatory activities, inspired by the BLUE DEAL “Ask Your Citizens” approach, enabling citizens to actively contribute to the transition process. Through consultation and dialogue, local communities help identify priorities and feasible pathways towards a low-carbon economy. Learn more
- Youth Think Tank. An initiative engaging secondary school and university students from pilot islands and beyond. Participants are invited to co-create and express their vision of a net-zero carbon future, fostering awareness, innovation and intergenerational dialogue.Learn more
- Open Innovation Collaborative Action. A collaborative process involving technical and technological companies invited to submit solutions in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency and ecosystem-based approaches. This action connects local needs with innovative market-driven proposals. Learn more
- 3D virtual reality experience. Development of immersive 3D simulations representing island landscapes and site-specific intervention scenarios. The virtual environment allows public authorities, stakeholders and citizens to visualise, assess and interact with proposed solutions in an engaging and informed manner. Learn More
- CO2 Pacman “The Island I Would Like” Labs and transition Roadmap. A second round of three-day workshops in the pilot islands dedicated to presenting and discussing project results with local stakeholders and citizens. These Labs synthesise the outcomes of the process into a Climate Neutrality Transition Roadmap tailored to each island. Learn more
